Manchester United vs Burnley Preview

|

Manchester United take on Burnley tomorrow in the Carabao Cup third round with kick-off at 8 o’clock.

The World Cup has now ended with Lisandro Martinez’s Argentina winning the prestigious tournament, however all attention turns back to the domestic leagues and cup competitions for Erik Ten Hag and Manchester United.

United’s first game back is against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley who are top of the Championship. The Clarets are unbeaten in four games in the Championship with their last win being against Middlesbrough where they won 3-1 at home.

Ten Hag’s side before the World Cup had four wins in five in all competitions as well, with the last outing being a 2-1 win against Fulham where Alejandro Garnacho announced himself as a contender to start for United.

Although the Red Devils did not have their first team due to most of the players leaving for the World Cup in Qatar, they did lose two friendlies against Cadiz 4-2 and Real Betis 1-0 at the start of December.

The Dutch manager won’t look into those results too much because he did not have his full-strength team, Jadon Sancho is still absent due to him being on an individual training program in the Netherlands.

Eight of the players who’s countries were knocked out also return with Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Fred, Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire all back from the middle east.

Both United starting centre-backs Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez who were finalists in the World Cup will not feature against Burnley tomorrow night, but are expected to be back next week.
