Head Coach provides fitness update

Marc Skinner spoke to the media ahead of his side’s game against Reading on Sunday afternoon and he provided an update on Leah Galton.

United go into the game against the Royals in good form as they beat their arch-rivals Liverpool 6-0 at Leigh Sports Village last weekend and speaking in his pre-match press conference, Skinner spoke about the WSL December Player of the Month’s availability for the game on Sunday as she missed the win over Liverpool.

“She’s progressing this week, it will be a late test going into this game,” Skinner told reporters on Wednesday afternoon. “So we will see. If not, I’ll imagine she’ll back and ready for the Sunderland game.

“But she’s progressing nicely, so with something like this, we’re very careful and cautious. We can afford to be a little bit [cautious] with the depth we’ve got.

“If she’s available this weekend and passes that [test], we’ll look to put her into the squad. But if not, I’m sure by the time [of the] Sunderland [game], should she not have any setbacks, she’ll be ready to go.

“Apart from that, everybody else is fresh and available for selection [for the Reading match]” [via Man Utd].

The game between the Royals and United kicks off at 2pm at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, and this is pivotal game for Man United because they are currently just three points behind the league leaders, Chelsea and they have a game in hand over Emma Hayes’ side, so they will be hoping to pick up maximum points in this fixture as they look to put the pressure on Chelsea, who are at home to Liverpool on Sunday.

In what is an extremely congested top four, with United level on points with Arsenal and three points above Manchester City, Skinner told the media that United must continue putting in the hard yards as they aim to give themselves the best chance of winning the WSL title in what he describes as the “most competitive league in Europe for sure” [via Man Utd].
