“He reminds me of Vida” – Berbatov

|

Dimiar Berbatov has today spoken about his admiration of Lisandro Martinez in an interview with MUTV, and compared him to a United legend.

Martinez has been a revelation since his summer move from Ajax in the summer, as his passionate no-nonsense defending and his desire to win the ball back as quickly as possible has seen him quickly become a fan favourite amongst the Old Trafford faithful and United’s former number 9, Berbatov has been impressed by the Argentine.

Berbatov has been impressed so much by Martinez that he compared him to United great and former captain, Nemanja Vidic.

The passionate and no-nonsense defending reminded Berbatov of his former team-mate, Vidic, who was not afraid to put his body on the line to help United win matches and league titles.

“Lisandro Martinez, I think he has no fear. No fear,” said the former Bulgarian international

“He is going into challenges and just in a way, a small way, he reminds me of Vida [Nemanja Vidic] because he is putting himself out there with the body and trying to fight for the team.”

Martinez has been one of United’s key performers this season as he has helped the team keep five clean-sheets in the league but it is his passing ability from the back that has been more impressive, which has helped United effectively build up attacks from the back.

According to fbref.com, Martinez has a passing accuracy of 86.9% and his progressive passing percentage sits at a remarkable 93%, which suggests that he can help progress United up the pitch as they look to slowly transition into the style of play that Erik ten Hag wants.

Next up for Martinez is World Cup duty as he goes to Qatar to represent Argentina.
