Interesting Facts

1 – In 2014, Shaw signed from Southampton to Manchester United with a fee of £30 million, smashing the old world record transfer fee for a teenager, previously held by fellow United player Wayne Rooney.

2 – Shaw scored his one and only goal in a match for Southampton during their pre-season preparations, scoring the last goal in the 8-0 win over Palamós in July 2013.

3 – Shaw`s senior international debut took place on the 5th March 2014. His first match was a friendly game between England and Denmark, in which England won 1-0. Later that year, Shaw was selected to play for England in the FIFA World Cup.

4 – In 2014, Shaw was on the shortlist for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award and was one of six players to receive the honour. In addition, he was chosen as left-back in for the Team of the Year Award 2013-2014, also awarded by PFA.

5 – Shaw`s style of play has been compared to that of Gareth Bale, who, like Shaw, played for Southampton in his youth. Both players are left-backs who tend to play attacking positions also, and are often praised for their speed and also their skills at defending.
