Could United recall back Laird from QPR?

|

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are exploring the possibility of bringing back some of their players who are currently out on loan in an attempt to bolster the squad in the New Year.

There are three players who are currently on loan at Championship sides and they include Ethan Laird, Hannibal Mejbri and Amad Diallo. According to MEN, United have the right to recall back each player if they want to.

Even though United are careful of ensuring that a player’s development is not disrupted, according to the sources of MEN, the club have told them that the requirements of the first-team comes first and that should a player need to be recalled back early from his loan, then United would look to trigger that option.

One player who might come back with United in the New Year is Laird, who is currently on a season-long loan at Queens Park Rangers, where he has started 17 times for the London side under Michael Beale [Transfermarkt.com], who has now departed to take the Glasgow Rangers managerial position .

However, QPR are now on the hunt for a new manager, which means that there is no guarantee that Laird will get as much game time as he did under Beale and with the possibility of Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaving, bringing back Laird from his loan spell might be a viable option for United to provide cover at right-back.

Brandon Williams can fill in at right-back, however, he is still recovering from his long-term injury but is expected to be with the first-team as they go on the training camp to Spain.

Laird can be a useful option for Dalot, who has been enjoying a fine campaign this season and has really made that right-back spot his own this season.
