United World Cup milestones

This World Cup has already provided some special milestones for the Manchester United players, who are competing for their nations in Qatar.

During the game against Iran, Marcus Rashford scored the third fastest goal by a non-starting player in the history of the World Cup and whilst scoring that goal he became the eight United academy graduate to score a goal at the World Cup finals, and the 7th to do whilst at United [manutd.com].

Statman Dave provided a unique statistic as he pointed out on Twitter that United left-back, Luke Shaw has now contributed to five goals from his last five games for England at both the European Championships and World Cup.

A day later on Tuesday United midfielder, Christian Eriksen took to the field and played his first game at a major tournament following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, which was a special story and moment.

Elsewhere, in the game between Denmark and Tunisia, which was a goalless draw, Hannibal Mejbri made his World Cup debut as a 19-year-old.

On Thursday afternoon, Facundo Pellistri also made his World Cup debut for Uruguay, despite not featuring for the United senior side, nevertheless, it is an achievement that many will be proud of.  

Bruno Fernandes won his 50th cap during Portugal’s opening match of the tournament against Ghana and it seemed as though the milestone inspired the Portuguese magnifico as he recorded two assists to help his side beat the Black Stars 3-2.

Club captain, Harry Maguire will win his 50th cap for England should he start for the Three Lions in their clash with the United States of America.
