2023/24 Premier League start, pause and end dates

|

The Premier League have announced the start and end dates for the 2023/24 Premier League season, which includes the return of the winter break that was last seen in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season.

The season is expected to start on Saturday 12 August 2023 and will conclude after 38 league games on Sunday 19 May 2024, where all games will kick-off at the same time.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 World Cup held in November and December of this year, which has caused significant disruptions to the last three Premier League campaigns, the calendar for the 2023/24 season will go back to normal.
In ensuring that players can perform at their peak, the Premier League has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that clubs have enough time to rest during the Christmas and New Year period because two gameweeks will not take place within 48 hours of each other, which is a welcome boost for managers and players alike.
The return of the winter break means that there will not be a single Premier League game scheduled between 13 and 20 January 2024.
The 2023-24 season will involve 34 weekends, three midweek round of fixtures and one Bank Holiday match round.

Players will have 76 clear days to prepare for next season’s campaign as the current season is scheduled to finish on Sunday 28 May, which is the second-latest finish there has been to a Premier League season, after the Covid pandemic in 2020 meant that the season was concluded on Sunday 26 July 2020.

With the season finishing on 19 May 2024, players will welcome the fact that they can recover and rest after a gruelling Premier League campaign in order to get ready for the international fixtures in June.
