Why Eriksen’s elimination could be a positive for United

|

Christian Eriksen will now return home from the 2022 FIFA World Cup after Denmark failed to make it past the group stages in Qatar.

Denmark only managed to register one point in a group that consisted of France, Australia and Tunisia.

However, this article aims to look at why it could be a good thing for Manchester United that Eriksen is no longer at the World Cup, even though there is sadness that Eriksen will no longer participate in the World Cup.

With United not in action until the 21st of December, when they face Burnley in the Carabao Cup, it means that Eriksen will now have time to rest and prepare for the second half of the season, which is much needed for Danish midfielder because he has played 1,048 minutes for Erik ten Hag’s side this season.

Resting is also important for Eriksen’s health because he only just returned to competitive action in January of this year when Brentford signed him after the United number 14 suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 whilst playing for Denmark.

Due to the fact United do not have a midfielder who can unlock defences from deeper positions, it is understandable as to why ten Hag plays Eriksen regularly.

Another reason as to why it is a good thing for United that Eriksen’s Denmark team have been elimination is because it enables Eriksen extra preparation ahead of the vital Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on the 27th December and strengthen his muscle memory.

Eriksen has been extremely important for United in the first three months and they will need their creative midfielder to be at his best for the remainder of the season as United aim to go deep in all four competitions.
