Manchester United women were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton at Leigh Sports Village this afternoon, however, in his post-match reaction to the draw, Marc Skinner said that United can take positives from their performance against the Toffees.
Not the result we wanted but we'll keep building and move forward as a group ✊#MUWomen || #WSL pic.twitter.com/UOnjEqLeOf

United could not find the breakthrough as Everton proved a tough nut to crack, with the Reds having 67% possession and 25 shots at goal, with four on target [BBC Sport].
It can be argued that United did more than enough to secure all three points but it was not to be as Ella Toone struck the post in the second half after Lucia Garcia went close with a shot that just went over the crossbar.in the first half.
With United failing to pick up three points against a stubborn Everton team, it allowed Chelsea to take advantage, and they did so as they beat Tottenham 3-2 at Brisbane Road to move ahead of United, however, Skinner says that today’s results should not mean that his side are not in contention to win the league.
“There will be other results this season, trust me that will fluctuate” (the table) Skinner added. “For us it doesn’t matter, we’ll just focus and show our qualities” [via Mirror].
The head coach was also pleased with the way that his side performed as he said: “We’re good. That is the beauty of this team is that even if we didn’t score, this team would be self-critical. We played well today and barring the result and some of the finishes, we’ll take some really good positives from today
“We were just a goal away from showing our quality today. We are right up challenging with the best sides in the country.
“Today we were after it and it was a hungry performance. Everton are a high energy team, but if you speak to their forwards as they come off the field, they said we have just chased for ninety minutes without touching the ball” [via Mirror]
Next up for United in the WSL is an away game against Tottenham Hotspur women, which takes place on Sunday at 12pm UK time, and for those in the UK, the game will be shown live on Sky Sports.
