United vs Forest previous meetings

|

After Manchester United were drawn against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup, Vital United will take a look at the previous meetings between the two sides.

Both sides have not played against each other much in recent years, but that will change when United and Forest meet in the two-legged semi-final affair in the League Cup later this month as the first leg is scheduled to take place during the week commencing the 23rd of January at the City Ground, whilst a week later, the return leg will take place at Old Trafford.

Manchester United and Nottingham Forest recently met in the Premier League just after Christmas and it was Erik ten Hag’s side, who came out on top 3-0 as goals from Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Fred sealed the win for the Reds.

Before the Premier League clash last month, United had to wait more than 23 years to play against Forest, with their last meeting coming against the Midlands side in 1999 at the City Ground, where United trounced their opponents 8-1. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored four goals that day in what was a memorable afternoon for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

United and Forest have also met in the League Cup, with the Old Trafford outfit coming out on top on all three occasions – including during the 1992 final at Wembley when Brian McClair netted the only goal of the game to win the trophy for the first time in the club’s illustrious history [via Man Utd].

The next meeting against Forest is an important one as Erik ten Hag’s side look to put themselves in a good position to reach the final of the Carabao Cup, which will be played at the end of February.
