United man wins Player of the Month award

|

Marcus Rashford been named as the Premier League’s ‘Player of the Month’ for January as he enjoyed a fine start to the calendar year with Manchester United, in which he helped Erik ten Hag’s side pick up 7 points from a possible 12.

Rashford won the award for January as he scored three goals, including the winner in the Manchester derby that helped United defeat Manchester City 2-1 in the middle of January. As well as scoring against Pep Guardiola’s side, Rashford netted against Bournemouth at the start of the month and he also scored against Arsenal, which was a game that United lost 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium.

The United number 10 got the ball rolling with a striker’s tap in goal during the win over the Cherries after some fine work from both Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes, who put the ball on a plate for Rashford to tap home and seal a 3-0 home win for United at Old Trafford.

The goal against City was perhaps the most significant one and it was a well-worked goal that sent the United fans into bedlam after Alejandro Garnacho’s excellent work in the build-up found Rashford in the six-yard box to score and hand United a 2-1 win victory over Manchester City.

Rashford did not score in United’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, which took place following the Man City game, however, the Mancunian did find the back of the net against the Gunners and it was a brilliant strike from distance that left Aaron Ramsdale helpless in the Arsenal goal, which gave United a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.

This is the second time that Rashford has been named as the Premier League’s ‘Player of the Month’ award as he won the award back in September.

United will be hoping that Rashford can continue his stellar January performances with a strong showing against Crystal Palace tomorrow afternoon at Old Trafford, which kicks off at 3pm UK time.
