United legends reunited ahead of MLS start

|

Two former Manchester United strikers, Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney caught up in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

The two United legends shared some great moments on the pitch together as the pair helped United win two Premier League title during the 2010/11 season and 2012/13 season, which was Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge of the Old Trafford outfit.

Hernandez, known as Chicharito, quickly became a fan favourite because of his work-rate and his ability to score vital goals for Manchester United, and the Mexican scored 59 goals in 157 appearances during his four years at United [Transfermarkt].

You could argue that the pair’s most memorable moment on the pitch together was during the 2010/11 season when they both combined for United’s second goal in the first-leg of their semi-final clash against Schalke in the UEFA Champions League in Germany. Chicharito played a brilliant pass for Rooney, who is now coaching MLS side DC United over in the States, to score.

United beat Schalke 2-0 away from home before completing the job at Old Trafford with a 4-1 win to reach their third UEFA Champions League final in four seasons.

Chicharito, who is the captain of MLS side LA Galaxy, took to social media to share an image that would have no doubt left the United fans with a smile on their face, and he used the famous saying, Once a Red, Always a Red, and saying rings true for the two strikers.

“It’s great to see you again after all this time,” Chicharito wrote on Twitter.

“Thanks for all the memories we shared on and off the field. Wish you nothing but the best! Once a Red always a Red!”
