At the annual Manchester United awards last night, Wayne Rooney deservedly picked up the player of the year award.

In doing so it makes a fine triple with Wayne having already scooped the PFA and Football Writers awards.

At the ceremony, Sir Alex, always pursued by the media, gave an insight into how he`s mellowed slightly with age.

When asked about an inquest if we fail to land the Premier League title, he pointed out,

“I used to look at every game but you can torture yourself with that.”

“We lost at Burnley at the start of the season. That was three points and we also missed a penalty.”

“If we had of scored that we might have won or at least got a draw that might have made a difference.”

“We had a couple of refereeing decisions against Chelsea. You could look at all these things.”

“You can twist and torture yourself but it happens.”

“We get breaks ourselves sometimes.”

To me it looks as if the defining moment in his eyes was that result at Turf Moor.

Anyone agree or disagree?
