United defender says yesterday’s atmosphere was the best he has experienced

Luke Shaw spoke to the club’s media team after the 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Manchester derby and he said that the atmosphere at Old Trafford was the best he has witness in his time at the club so far.

Shaw has been at Manchester United since 2014, and for the United number 23 to say that, speaks volumes as it shows just how special an atmosphere it was.

With United trailing 1-0 to City through a Jack Grealish goal, Erik ten Hag’s side needed that Old Trafford more than ever before as they looked to secure a comeback win.

United were kicking towards the Stretford End, which would have inevitably given the players that extra boost as they looked to do something that no club has done to Manchester City since August 2021.

The comeback win was complete as Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scored within four minutes to put United ahead, and Shaw says that the reaction of the crowd, shows that they are with the team.

“It’s incredible,” Shaw said of the Old Trafford atmosphere in a post-match interview with club media. “For me, I’ve been here a long time now, I think eight years. For me, today, the atmosphere was the best I’ve been involved in.

“It shows the fans are with us, they’re pushing us in the right direction, and I hope they really enjoyed it today.

United will be looking to build on this derby day victory over City by backing it up with victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night. The game kicks off at 8pm UK time and will be shown live on Sky Sports for those in the UK.
