United defender frustrated at yesterday’s outcome

Lisandro Martinez scored his first Manchester United goal but it proved to be in vein as United suffered a crushing 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Martinez, who joined United over Arsenal in the summer, was frustrated at how the game ended as he felt that this was a game that United could have won and the Argentine emphasised the importance of stay switched on during key moments of the game.

“I think we can win the game today,” he said. “But this is about details. If you are not [focused on] every detail, you can’t win.

“We have to be strong, and we have to learn also from every experience. [It] cannot happen again, for sure it cannot happen again.

“We have to be really focused on the game and we have to kill the game. We have to win” [via Man Utd].

Even though United lost, Martinez spoke about his satisfaction of scoring his first goal in United colours but he says it does not matter much because his side were on the wrong side of the result.

“For sure, it is a dream to score my first goal here in Manchester United,” he said. “I am really happy with that, but in the end it was not the result that I want. We have to keep going.

However, the United number 6 says that there is no time to dwell on the result, instead United need to look  forward to the cup matches that they have scheduled this week in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

“[We] don’t have a day to be sad,” he added.

“We have to go tomorrow and change. We have to go for the next one” [via Man Utd].

Even though, United suffered defeat at the Emirates, Erik ten Hag’s side are still on course to achieving their objectives of qualifying for the Champions League because yesterday’s result means that United are still six points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently fifth and travel to Craven Cottage tonight to face Fulham.
