|

Shortly after midnight, Manchester United confirmed the signing of Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Sabitzer joins United from the Bundesliga champions as they desperately needed to bolster their midfield options, as on Tuesday, it was confirmed by the club that Christian Eriksen would be out for at least three months [Man Utd].

With the Dane out, United acted decisively and quickly to secure the Austrian international’s signature as according to Sky Germany, Chelsea “enquired” about signing the midfielder [Sky Sports].

The Austrian, is an extremely versatile player, who can play in several positions, such as he can play as an attacking midfielder or as a right-winger according to Transfermarkt, however, his primary position is in centre-midfield, which is key from a United perspective, because before the signing of Sabitzer, the club only had Fred and Casemiro as its two recognised centre-midfielders as Scott McTominay is out with a minor injury and Donny van de Beek is out for the rest of the season.

The box-to-box midfielder has made 68 appearances for his national team, scoring 12 goals and sine joining Bayern in the summer of 2021, he has racked up 54 appearances [via Man Utd].

It was at RB Lepizig where he caught the eye of many as he captained his team in the UEFA Champions League and he was an important player for the German side as he made 229 appearances, in which he scored 52 goals and set up his team-mates on 42 occasions [Transfermarkt].

The new signing gave his reaction to joining and he said that: “Sometimes in life you have to make quick and important decisions. From the moment I heard about this opportunity I knew it was right for me. I am a competitive player; I want to win and help the club achieve its aims this season.

“I feel that I am at my peak as a player, and that I can contribute a lot of experience and energy to the squad. I am excited to start with my new team-mates and manager and to show my qualities to Manchester United fans” [via Man Utd].

The experienced 28-year-old, will not be in action for his new team tonight against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg, but he is in line to feature for Erik ten Hag’s side when they take on Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday.
