Although Jose Mourinho has overseen the acquisition of two expensive centre-backs, in the shape of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, it would appear that further changes are afoot at the heart of the defence this summer.

The popular red-top tabloid publication, the Daily Mirror is running with the inference that Mourinho is looking to revamp his defence once the summer transfer window opens.

According to our referenced source, the Manchester United careers of both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are set to come to an end.

If that is the case, I`d have to admit to being a little surprised as the duo, in recent weeks, have been Mourinho`s first-choice partnership at the heart of the defence, although we should point out that Mourinho`s options have been limited with Eric Bailly recuperating from a long-term injury.

But, if Smalling and Jones are to be moved on, it remains to be seen who Mourinho has his eyes on when it comes to replacements, but I`m sure the media will soon start speculating just who Jose is interested in.
