Player ratings from Charlton win

|

Manchester United defeated Charlton Athletic 3-0 at Old Trafford to seal their place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and there were a number of players who played well.

Even though it was against a League One side, United still had to get the job done, which they did. However, if there is any slight criticism of the performance, it is that United should have been more clinical in front of goal as they had numerous chances to score.

Tom Heaton 7/10 – The United ‘keeper made his first competitive appearance of the season between the sticks and he looked an assured presence in goal as he saved well and dealt with the Charlton crosses effectively.

Diogo Dalot 6/10 – Combined well with Antony in the first half but his night was cut short after he went off with an injury, which is hopefully not too serious. Hit the ball over in the first three minutes, which he should have scored.

Harry Maguire 7/10 – Looked much more comfortable at right centre-back as opposed to previous matches. Played several good diagonal passes to Alejandro Garnacho in the first half. Hopefully the United captain can take his form from the win over Charlton into the games United have coming up.

Lisandro Martinez 6/10 – Made his first start in a United shirt since returning to Manchester as a World Cup winner and he put in a decent showing alongside Maguire but the important thing for him was that he got minutes under his legs.

Tyrell Malacia 6/10 – Combined well with Garnacho in the first-half as they caused plenty of problems down the Charlton right but his final ball was lacking.

Fred 8/10 – Brought his energy and work-rate to the game as he grabbed an assist for Antony’s stunning strike in the first half. Was unlucky to see his free-kick hit the post in what was a good showing from the Brazilian. Has to be in contention to start against Manchester City on Saturday.

Scott McTominay 6/10 –  Did not have his best game against Charlton, which is probably because he has not featured much in recent weeks due to illness.

Kobbie Mainoo 6/10 – The midfielder made his debut for United as a 17-year-old, which tells you something and this experience will be invaluable for him in the future and he did not disappoint.

Antony 7/10 – He got his goal with an excellent strike that set United on their way to victory, and hopefully there is more to come from. Needs to use his right-foot more though.

Anthony Elanga 5/10 – Not found the back of the net this season, but could have had one as he tapped home in the 49th minute but he was offside.

Alejandro Garnacho 8/10 – United’s most dangerous player as he set up Dalot in the opening minutes. After setting up Dalot, he had a chance himself but he hit it over. Had opportunities to score tonight as he got himself into good positions to score in what was a lively performance from the 18-year-old.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7/10 – Came on for Dalot and produced an excellent tackle to stop Charlton from getting a sight at goal. Crossed the ball for Elanga at the start of the second half but the Swede was offside.

Casemiro 8/10 – Brought on to increase the intensity of United’s game as for a brief period in the second half, ten Hag’s side gave Charlton encouragement. Casemiro’s introduction changed that as he dictated the play with his passing and he played a brilliant ball that played in Marcus Rashford to score his second of the game.

Christian Eriksen 7/10 – Helped United gain control and he had a shot on target in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Facundo Pellistri 8/10 – Had to wait more than two years for his debut and he did not disappoint as he grabbed an assist for Rashford’s first goal.

Marcus Rashford 8/10 – The United man cannot stop scoring as he scored twice in the win over the League One side.
