Mourinho Rejects Opportunity To Make A Quick Return To Football Management

|

With the tenure of Jose Mourinho as the manager of Manchester United Football Club now confined to the history books, it remains to be seen where the ‘Special One’ next turns up in a managerial role.

As has been the case in several of his previous jobs, Mourinho got into difficulty in his third season in the role and, despite having won silverware for the club, was axed as the Manchester United hierarchy sought to rescue what was turning into an awful season.

The decision appears to have been the correct one with Mourinho’s replacement, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, winning his first five games in charge.

But, returning to the question as to where Mourinho will turn up next, it appears that the Special One has already declined to take over what many would consider a prime job.

According to the Portuguese media source, the Record, Mourinho was offered the Benfica job after the Lisbon based club sacked their manager, Rui Vitoria, this week.

The offer, if Mourinho had accepted, would have seen a return to Portuguese football where he had such spectacular success, early in his career, guiding FC Porto to the Champions League title.

As is our duty, we’ll endeavour to monitor the situation and report back as deemed necessary as Mourinho contemplates his next move in football.
