Manchester United are in Talks with David De Gea

|

Manchester United are apparently in talks with goalkeeper David De Gea over a new contract.

De Gea is one of the highest earners at the club and United have an option for a one-year extension on his contract but chose not to go through with the extension due to them having to decrease the Spaniard’s salary in case there is a breach of financial fair play.

After the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, the United goalkeeper is now the highest-paid player at the club being on an annual salary of £19,500,000 which relates to £375,000 a week.

There were talks of him leaving earlier this season as United are looking to build for the future and it looked like Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa would be the man, however with the club now up for sale and the Glazers not wanting to spend, it seems like manager Erik Ten Hag has to use what he has got at his disposal.

It also looks like Dean Henderson won’t be replacing De Gea as many thought he would after what he said at the start of the season in an interview with Nottingham Forest.

None of the current goalkeepers would replace the United number 1 as Tom Heaton is still good but too old for Ten Hag’s planning and loanee Martin Dubravka not looking like United quality after the close calls against Burnley and the two mid-season friendlies against Cadiz and Real Betis in December.

Do you think David De Gea will sign a new contract with United?
