Latest on Wan-Bissaka and Williams

|

Erik ten Hag has provided an update on the fitness of Manchester United full-backs, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams, who have not featured regularly or at all for United this season.

Many fans might be wondering what the latest on Brandon Williams and Aaron-Wan Bissaka is because they are two right-backs who could deputise for Diogo Dalot, however, they are both lacking match fitness due to different circumstances.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has not featured much this season because of illness and a back injury that has seen him only come on a second half substitute in the 2-1 win over Liverpool in August.

In his pre-match press conference, ten Hag was asked about the latest on the United number 29, who he hopes can stay injury-free and provide competrion for Diogo Dalot.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka, he struggled as well, but in a different side,” said the United manager.

“Some injuries, some illnesses, so he was also often not available, but he doesn’t have a real big problem. It’s about him [getting] really fit and to make competition with Diogo for the second half of the season.”

Brandon Williams was the other full-back that ten Hag was asked about as due to injury he has not been able to feature all season, however, the manager is hopeful that he is on the comeback trail, which is good news for United and the academy graduate.

“[Brandon had] a bad injury, and really struggled but he is in the right direction,” ten Hag said when asked how he is progressing with his rehabilitation.

“He is in a good way, he is back on the pitch and he will return to team training next week.

“He will go with us to the training camp in Cadiz, he will be available for the team so [I’m] happy for him.”

Both players will look to build up their match sharpness and fitness during the club’s winter training campaign in Spain, that will see United play games against Cadiz CF and Real Betis in December.

Even though Wan-Bissaka or Williams might not be fully fit to start for United in the game against Fulham, ten Hag could decide to deputise with Victor Lindelof or Tyrell Malacia at right-back, given that they have both featured there during the Europa League group stage matches.
