Eriksen and Denmark Struggle to Beat Tunisia

|

Christian Eriksen and Denmark held to a draw against a well-drilled Tunisia side.

The first group game for both sides in the World Cup, who are competing in Group D.

Eriksen had an alright game not causing Tunisia many problems, this was due to the Tunisia midfield and defence surrounding the Dane at all times especially when he was on the ball.

This was displayed in the opening minutes when Eriksen received the ball and Laidouni made a slide tackle as he celebrated like he had won the World Cup with the majority of fans in the Education City Stadium being from Tunisia.

The team from North Africa had the first opportunity of the game when right back Drager struck a shot from outside the 18-yard box, which Kasper Schmeichel was left looking stranded as the ball went past the left post.

A long ball over the top of the Denmark defence saw Jebali score a goal that ended up being ruled offside.

Tunisia seemed to be more likely to score as the half went on and Tunisia’s number nine was denied another goal, this time by Schmeichel, who managed to get a strong hand to the ball.

The Danes were also denied a goal as Olsen slotted the ball in the bottom corner after a flurry of chances, Maehle was the man who was offside as the game was still goalless.

Eriksen struck a shot with his weaker left foot but was stopped by Tunisia goalkeeper Dahmen.

The best chance of the match was when a corner came in for Denmark, which was headed down by Andreas Christensen to Cornelius who judge the flight of the ball wrong as it ended up hitting the post.

A VAR handball decision happened in added time by Meriah but the referee said it was not a penalty.

Hannibal on loan at Birmingham City from United also made his World Cup debut for Tunisia today only aged 19.
