Charlton Athletic team news

|

The Charlton Athletic players, staff and fans would have been elated when they were drawn against Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The Addicks booked their spot in the last eight of the League Cup with a penalty shootout win over Brighton and Hove Albion, which means that they are the lowest rank side left in the competition.

Charlton, managed by Dean Holden, go into this fixture in good form as the London club have won their last two matches, recording wins over Portsmouth in League One and Lincoln City in the FA Cup over the weekend and this article will look at the League One side’s team news.

According to the Man Utd official website, Addicks ‘keeper, Ashley Maynard-Brewer, was not part of his side’s win over Lincoln in the FA Cup because during training he took a ball to the face, which meant that under concussion protocols, the Australian had to miss the game [via Man Utd].

Charlton defender, Eoghan O’Connel featured for the first time since the end of October in the FA Cup win, which will have been a welcome boost for manager, Holden but he will have to do without Mandela Egbo because he is out with a quad injury [via Man Utd]. Other than that, it looks as though Holden will have a fully fit squad to choose from as his side make the journey up to Manchester.

With a semi-final place up for grabs for both teams, the game between United and Charlton is sure to be an exciting one and it gets underway at 8pm UK time at Old Trafford.
