Encamped in their training base in North America, Sir Alex has been entertaining the media ahead of our series of friendly fixtures.

Somehow, during the two way conversation, the subject of managing England came up and Sir Alex responded with the following,

“I`ve been asked to manage the England team on a couple of occasions but, of course, it`s out of the question.”

“It`s a poisoned chalice anyway – it`s a terrible job.”

“Plus I`ve a tremendous handicap being Scottish. Any way you look at it, that`s important.”

Now being English myself, I have to say, although I`m probably a little biased, that I`d have no objections to a Scot managing us; after all we`ve had a Swede, and an Italian who have both failed to deliver the goods!
