Dimitar Berbatov has played brilliantly for Bulgaria recently. The new United signing is a tad out of club football as he’s been left out of Spurs’ opening three games but that in itself should not mean he’s behind in fitness.

However, rumours say that he’s not up to ‘United standard’ in terms of fitness and he’ll follow a rigorous training schedule from the moment he sets foot in Carrington as he hasn’t joined the squad yet because of international duty.

I have to say it again: playing for Bulgaria Berbatov looks as sublime as ever and apparently there is no problem with his physical state. But it could be true that the pace of Premier League football might be too much for at the moment.

But with Ronaldo out, Nani and Rooney in bad form, it is quite important that Berbatov makes his debut at Liverpool. To cut it short: if he’s fit enough to play for Bulgaria then we can make a gamble on him – especially as he’s brilliant, according to Jonny Evans (well, not just him but he spoke out this time)

‘I could not wait for half-time to come as Berbatov was outstanding. He is someone who can make a difference to a game,’ said Evans, recalling his White Hart Lane experience that he had had when he had been playing for Sunderland on loan.

‘Berbatov has a great touch for a big man and is a very good player. I am just glad he is now at United. On the other hand I know I will have to be at my best in training.’
