Edwin van der Sar: I can’t remember a single shot on target by Wigan so he was largely untroubled. 6

Wes Brown: Capped a fine season with a flawless performance. Tackled well without hesitation and kept his foes at bay. 8

Rio Ferdinand: Could have given away a penalty but otherwise as impressive as ever. 8

Nemanja Vidic: A solid performance, could have scored with a header and did his job defensively. His clearances were especially crucial when United were 1-0 up with twenty minutes to go. 8

Patrice Evra: Looked a bit nervous. He dealt with Valencia fairly easily but offered little in attack. 7

Cristiano Ronaldo: Throwing tantrums all over the place when anyone dared to tackle him – he even stopped to look indignantly on Bennett when he beat his man on one occasion. Not the right attitude and should be warned before the final. Struck home the penalty clinically though. 6

Michael Carrick: The usual understated brilliance. He had a bit of a dip in form over the last two or three games but his goal against West Ham brought his confidence back and passed the ball superbly yesterday, making key tackles and interceptions as well. 8

Paul Scholes: It’s not enough being innocent: you have to look innocent, too and that’s something Scholes did not manage with a yellow card already to his name. Fortunately, Bennett did not dismiss him and he had a fine game otherwise, pulling the strings from midfield. 7

Ji-sung Park: Worked hard but did not pose enough attacking threat. 6

Carlos Tevez: He also worked his socks off but to little effect. Missed his only real chance and looked tired. It’s fortunate that Saha is now available for the Champions League final. 6

Wayne Rooney: A bit rusty, understandably and did not make challenges he usually does. But he was still very good: won a penalty and supplied the assist for Ryan Giggs. Kirkland denied him a goal what he would have deserved but hopefully he’ll score in Moscow!8

Owen Hargreaves: Replaced Scholes and shored up things in midfield with typical efficiency. 7

Ryan Giggs: He’s won it ten times, he’s won it ten times!! 10
