Purchased by Jose Mourinho, the future of our Ivory Coast defender, Eric Bailly, is causing some consternation in the media.

According to the red-top publication, the Daily Mirror, Bailly has reservations about his long-term future at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old centre-back hasn’t played for Manchester United since the wonderful derby day victory, against Manchester City, at the start of April.

Furthermore, on Sunday, when Manchester United beat Arsenal 2-1, Bailly wasn’t even selected in the 18-man squad named by Jose Mourinho, with our referenced source inferring that the defender was given no reason as to why he was axed from the squad by Mourinho.

Now whether Bailly is now seen as surplus to requirements or has simply been rested due to a lull in form, remains to be seen.

My own view is that Bailly has the potential to develop into a top-class centre-back but that he is susceptible to the occasional lapse, is that the reason for his sudden disappearance from the scene?

I guess we’ll find out over the coming months.
