Everyone knows that Sir Alex Ferguson can`t go on for ever.

It`s widely accepted that, one day, the Scotsman will decide to cal lit a day.

But, when that day is remains anybody`s guess.

Nevertheless, the day when Sir Alex does retire is something that David Gill has to be planning for and as the squad prepare to come back from the American tour, he`s offered the world`s media a few thoughts on the matter, commenting,

“Whatever people might say, there won`t be a meltdown when Alex goes. I`ve said before we don`t know when it will be.”

“We`re trying to make sure we get the quality of the team and the age profile correct so the new manager coming in – whoever that might be – has the nucleus of a world-class team.”

“Clearly the new manager will have hi sown ideas and will want to change two or three players, but if he wants to change 12 or 13 he probably won`t be the right manager for United.”

“It will clearly be a sea of change for the club and we have to be ready.”

“But to be honest I never discuss retirement with Alex. We talk about his fitness but he delegates well and football keeps him young.”

As well as when, I`m probably one of those who also ponders; a lot, as to who will come in.

How about you?
