Not that long ago, the intimation was there that Danny Welbeck could leave Old Trafford, providing he didn`t move to one of our title rivals.

Well that proviso appears to have been sacrificed after it was announced last night that the England international striker had joined Arsenal, for a fee said to be in the region of £6 million.

I`m guessing that the sale limitation was lifted for either one of two reason, or perhaps both, namely:-

1 – The arrival of Radamel Falcao meant that Welbeck had no future at Old Trafford and the arrival of the free-scoring Colombian meant that United were confident they will out-score any side they are matched against.

Or

2 – Having spent so heavily in the past week or so, United just had to recoup some many and it didn`t really matter where it was coming from.

Either way, Welbeck is now history and although he was never a free-scoring striker at Old Trafford, probably because he was played out of position so many times, I`m of the opinion he`ll do very well down at Arsenal.
