Nemanja Vidic believes winning the Carling Cup for the second consecutive year is nothing to scoff at, as the top six teams in England are strong enough to hold their own against anyone and that’s why every trophy is worth a lot here.

“At the moment in England there are six teams who look very good and all those teams can take points off each other. That makes you realise how tough English football can be.”

“Winning the Carling Cup is a big achievement. In the past people have written it off but you saw the team we put out on Sunday – there`s no doubt we wanted to win.”

Vidic went on to add that United deserved to win as Villa created very little and after the equaliser we were fairly comfortable at the back while creating chances up front. Which is perfectly true.

As for the Carling Cup: I said it many times, it’s one of the best competitions for a fan as going out of it is no big blow but winning it is still sweet enough, especially after such hotly contested games like the Man City semi-final. Both City and Villa wanted to win this competition very much so it wasn’t a battle between uninterested teams, it was a very real competition this season. Which is good.
