Dropping out of the Champions League, on Wednesday night, and into the horrors of the Europa League, is something that will haunt us for the remainder of this season.

At times like these it is always easy to look for a scapegoat, but, as the squad re-groups and prepares to take the rough with the smooth, Rio Ferdinand has stepped forward and defended David De Gea, who many perceive was at fault for the first Basel goal on Wednesday night, remarking,

“I wouldn`t put any blame on David de Gea. We haven`t defended well as a unit in a few big games this season and in the Champions League the damage was done in our home games against Basel and Benfica.”

“Our problems are not down to any single individual or a particular generation of players.”

“It`s down to us all. But we bounced back after the disappointment of 2004 and 2005 and we will do it again.”

“You don`t become a club like ours without having the capacity to bounce back.”

Very commendable Rio.
