The Manchester United career of Guillermo Varela appears to be coming to an end.

Varela joined Manchester United four years ago but the Uruguayan defender hasn`t managed to become a permanent fixture in the first team squad.

Last season, the 24-year-old spent the season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt and perhaps a telling sign that his Old Trafford career was over was the fact he didn`t report back for pre-season training like the remainder of the squad.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Varela is set to make a return to the club Manchester United bought him from, Penarol.

Our referenced source suggests that Varela will sign a three-year deal with Penarol with a transfer fee having been agreed and with the deal having had a sell-on clause inserted.

Here at Vital Manchester United we wish Guillermo well on his return to his future club.
