It was the golden generation, Scholes, Beckham, the Neville brothers, Butt and Giggs, all gate-crashing the first team squad from our youth set-up.

They contrived to build a dynasty at Old Trafford that saw the club have great success. Whether there`ll be anything of the like again remains to be seen. The current trend seems to be to buy players and grab instant success – just like Manchester City are trying to do.

But what would you prefer?

Would you rather see youngsters coming through, would you rather see expensive imports coming in, or doesn`t it really matter as long as success is forthcoming?

Ryan Giggs, one of those from the golden generation, has his thoughts on the matter, revealing,

“As long as City have the money they will stay up there.”

“But I prefer to see players coming through the youth system as I`ve done.”

“It`s a great way for the fans to associate themselves with these players.”

“But if you were to ask players or fans generally, they don`t really care – they just want success.”
