Nothing is won, apart from the shield, although local pride and more importantly a ‘marker’ has been put down following a dramatic community shield win by United this afternoon.

From 2-0 down United came back to beat City 3-2 in injury-time.

Lescott (38) and Dzeko (45) on the stroke of half time saw City go into the interval in complete control and looking on course to set down their own marker…

United though, once more, proved that they are never beaten until the full time whistle is blown and two goals in quick succession in the opening 15-minutes of the 2nd half from Smalling (52) and Nani (58) levelled things up.

With a penalty shootout looming, and deep into injury-time, Nani (90) raced clear to score a dramatic winner.
