A lot has been written, in the media, about Wayne Rooney`s social activities, hopefully the subject will soon become tonight`s fish and chip paper and we can all get back to a sense of normality.

Tonight, Wayne comes up against an old adversary in David Weir, a veteran defender who still does a more than capable job for club and country.

Weir, being old school, is quite right in his assessment of the situation and his concerns about Wayne as a footballer, rather than all the other guff, shows a mutual respect from a player who witnessed Wayne make a dramatic breakthrough into the Everton first team when just a teenager.

Ahead of the fixture tonight, Weir has spoken about Wayne`s talent and also his breakthrough into that Everton first team, remarking,

“I am more interested in Wayne Rooney as a footballer.”

“I don`t think there is any need to give him any encouragement. He is one of the best players in the world.”

“Wayne was only 16 when he made his debut but he took to it like a duck to water.”

“I am sure not whether having played with him before will help me in this match.”

It promises to be an interesting battle!
