United Under 21s Premier League International Cup preview

|

Manchester United Under-21s are back in action tonight at Leigh Sports Village as they take on PSV Eindhoven in the Premier League International Cup.

The Young Reds have played two games in the tournament so far, drawing one and losing one, against Sparta Praha (0-0) and AS Monaco (0-2 defeat) respectively.

The United Under-21s will be hoping to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat to AS Monaco last month at Old Trafford and they will be hoping to convert their chances because in the Monaco game United created numerous chances but could not take them.

United currently sit in 7th place on one point but a win tonight would see United go level on points with tonight’s opponents [Soccer Way UK].

PSV will not be easy opponents for United this evening as from their two matches, they have not lost a single match as they defeated West Ham 5-0 and picked up a 2-2 draw with Brighton [Soccer Way UK], in their last fixture in the Premier League international Cup, so United will have to be wary of the threat that the Dutch side possess.

Given that United cannot play an English side in the group stages, the youngsters only have one more game left in the group stages after this, which is against Dutch side Feyenoord.

The tournament, that features 12 of the best academies in England and 12 quality development squads from other European countries, made its return after a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The six teams who finish top in their respective groups and the two best runners-up will advance to the knockout stage of the competition.
