United to “make a decision on a striker and right-back” – Romano

|

Yesterday, Fabrizio Romano said on his official YouTube channel that the Manchester United hierarchy and manager Erik ten Hag will hold a meeting together to discuss Manchester United’s January targets.

Romano says that United will make a decision in conjunction with ten Hag on whether the club should go ahead with plans to sign a striker and a right-back in January.

United are in the market for a striker because the termination of Cristiano Ronaldo’s United contract after his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, means that the club are desperate to add depth to a forward line, that only has two recognisable strikers in Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

One player that has been linked with United is Cody Gakpo, who has been in great form at the World Cup in Qatar as he has scored three goals in four appearances for the Netherlands and Vital United published an article stating that Gakpo would be affordable for United at a price of £43 million according to Dean Jones [Give Me Sport].

United are also monitoring the possibility of signing Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong because las month the respected Italian journalist said that were “interested” in signing the former Celtic man after sending scouts to watch him on several occasions [Vital United].

Ten Hag wants a right-back to add further competition to Diogo Dalot, because it feels as though under the Dutchman, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is surplus to requirements, but the current right-back has a chance to stake a claim to be part of the United squad if he impresses during the training camp in Spain and the two friendlies that are to be played this week against Cadiz and Real Betis.
