Although Manchester United still have an enormous amount of work to do to ensure they don`t miss out on Champions League football like they did during the final season of Louis van Gaal being in charge, there`s no doubting that Old Trafford seems a far happier place this season.

The arrival of Jose Mourinho, ahead of the current season, has seen the side rediscover its mojo and if Manchester United could have turned a few of those plethora of draws in the current unbeaten run into some wins we could be up there challenging Chelsea for the title.

The board certainly seem happy with the progress being made as the inference is being bandied about by The Sun, that they plan to sit down with Mourinho, come the end of the season, to discuss activating the 12-month extension he currently has on his 3-year-contract.

If the clause is activated, a further clause will also be activated whereby another 12-month option becomes a viability, meaning that Jose, if all goes well, could be in charge at Old Trafford until 2022.

However, our referenced source is also quick to point out that the activation of the option will not result in any increase in salary for Mourinho, but success will be rewarded in the shape of bonuses.
