There`s no doubting it was a horrible challenge from Jamie Carragher and the referee, Phil Dowd, should have produced a red card, but the manner in which matters evolved left a lot to be desired.

Championed as a leader in the pre-match build up, Nani did himself no favours by jumping to his feet, to offer his protestations, before noticing that the claret was flowing and then, theatrically, falling down again before being carried away on a stretcher.

Now perhaps the adrenalin rush nullified the pain in the immediate aftermath, I don`t honestly know, but perhaps a better ploy would have been to simply lay there, gather your senses and then assess what damage had been done, not seek verbal retribution for a challenge that left every body in the vicinity wince and should have been dealt with far more effectively by Phil Dowd!
