Everyone and their cat and dog are talking about Liverpool v Chelsea, bigging it up as a potential title decider. They all seem to take it for granted that we’ll go out and beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Where they haven’t lost since December. Where they beat Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal. They have Darren Bent, the best goalscorer of the lower half of the table and by some distance as well. So it’s far from granted.

And United fans, this is our worst nightmare. The worst case scenario. Liverpool might get something against Chelsea. They could hang on to a draw. They can nick a winner against the run of play with some desperate defending and good set-pieces. And then it’s entirely feasible we’ll go to Sunderland and drop points, thus getting Chelsea back into it.

Sir Alex must get his team selection absolutely spot on and by that I mean that there should be no place for Ryan Giggs and Scholes should be protected by Carrick AND Fletcher. I agree that with Berbatov starting this might be a team struggling to score but with Nani and Valencia we should be able to create chances. If Rooney starts, then he will be perfectly fine as a lone striker.

Going with a 4-4-2 or even a 4-2-3-1 with Giggs behind Berbatov (or Rooney) in the hole could be disastrous, we were well outplayed at Old Trafford with only Scholes and Fletcher in central midfield – although the Ginger Ninja was nowhere near the form he’s been showing recently.

So yeah, I’m terribly nervous. Part of me believes it would actually be better if Chelsea won comfortably at Anfield. At least we won’t have to worry about dropping points at Sunderland. But if we’ll have the opportunity to go into the final game on top and waste it… I might commit suicide. That would be as unbearable as throwing away a 3-0 lead in a CL quarter-final… although we’ve survived that, haven’t we?
