Having just witnessed the Premier League title head south for a minimum of twelve months, it was a rueful Sir Alex that faced the media.

Not retaining the title, for a record fourth time, saw the inevitable media inquest commence, Sir Alex, doing his best to hide the bitter disappointment he must have felt at failing to add another Premier League title to our record, batted a few dilemma`s around remarking,

“Did I always make the right team selection with the appropriate tactics? Do we have a strong enough squad.”

“I have to weigh up whether to move into the transfer market, considering our own youth development and our players.”

“It`s an assessment that has to be set against injuries, bad luck and the fact there is a harder competitive edge in the League these days.”

I`d also add that probably a defining element was a lack of a quality strike partner for Wayne Rooney, in hindsight our greatest failing was not replacing Cristiano Ronaldo or Carlos Tevez adequately.
