There was a train of thought that Manchester United`s interest in the Benfica defender, Victor Lindelof, might have materialised in a late January transfer window purchase.

However, it wasn`t to be and it now appears that Manchester United`s long running interest in the 22-year-old Swedish international centre-back will see a deal completed in the summer.

But, according to the Express, if Manchester United are to buy the talented centre-back the price may well have gone up to around the £50 million mark.

Our source is running with the inference that Benfica have done a very astute piece of business by paying to have the minimum fee clause removed from the players` contract, a release fee that was considerably less than the price now being mentioned.

Now whether Manchester United will still be as keen to pay the required price for the player, or whether they will now turn their attentions elsewhere, remains to be seen.
