United Surprise Us All By Focusing On Another Centre Back To Fill The Void

|

Yesterday, in the continuing saga relating to just who Manchester United were seeking to fill the void at the heart of the defence, we thought we’d found the answer.

Speculation, as covered by Vital Manchester United, Click Here, implied that Harry Maguire, of Leicester City, was our man.

But some twenty-four hours later, the scenario looks to have changed again.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are now switching their focus to Issa Diop, the West Ham United centre back.

Our referenced source is also reporting that United are set to offer the Hammers £45 million for the central defender plus an, as of yet, unnamed player.

However, this could be a deal that United may find hard to complete.

Diop has only been at the East London club for one season, making 38 appearances last season.

Signed from Toulouse, for £22 million, the 22-year-old has made quite an impression and the Hammers are reticent that the defender is not for sale.

If United, as we hope, do manage to pull this deal off, the total cost of the transfer fee, including a possible player exchange, could exceed £60 million, which, we have to say, is less than what Harry Maguire would cost, but which of the two would you prefer, Diop or Maguire?

My personal choice would be the younger man, but, as I said earlier, it’s a deal I’m not sure United will be able to push through.
