It`s a subject that has cropped up before and will continue to crop up!

Just how long can Sir Alex Ferguson continue as the manager of Manchester united Football Club?

Speculation will always be rife about a potential successor but Ryan Giggs, now in the twilight of his United career, can see Sir Alex continuing for a few years yet, remarking,

“The manager is as good as ever and will go on for a long time.”

“I can see him as the United manager in five years and even at 75.”

“As long as he is healthy he`ll have the desire to carry on.”

“He has a great team around him and has his passions away from the game, like horse racing, so when he comes back to football he is always refreshed.”

“He has mellowed and isn`t anywhere near as frightening as 20 years ago.”

“I`ve known him since I was 12. It`s changed from me just being a kid looking up to him, to being an experienced player he talks to – and from whom he asks advice about certain players and situations.”

“It`s always been a special relationship but it`s never been you, I`m a better player than in my early 20`s.”

It`s an interesting thought but no doubt in this cruel world of football, even though he has a record second to none, a couple of seasons without a major trophy could see everything change.

But, if he were to continue until he is 75, we`d hope that plans would be afoot to integrate a successor to his position!
