The rumour that appeared in the gossip column yesterday relating to a possible united interest in the Stoke City defender, Ryan Shawcross, hasn`t been too well received down in the Potteries.

With it being reported that the United chief scout, Jim Lawlor, was spotted at the recent Wigan v Stoke game and that United were, quite possibly, contemplating a bi din the region of £20 million for a player they once had on their books, Stoke`s energetic manager, Tony Pulis, has come out and offered the inference that Shawcross isn`t for sale, remarking to the media,

“Ryan is somebody the chairman will not contemplate leaving.”

“We`ve not had any offers and we wouldn`t welcome any.”

Mind you, £20 million seems a bit steep if you ask me!
