January, and the subsequent reopening of the transfer window, may still be some way off but it doesn`t stop the rumours about possible targets emerging.

Okay, so the quantity might drop off but to keep the public hooked the media just love to dangle the odd carrot in front of its audience.

Today, the inference is that, come January, Sir Alex Ferguson will be pursuing the capture of the Spurs midfielder, Tom Huddlestone. According to the rumour, Huddlestone is a player who Sir Alex has appreciated for quite a while although whether Harry Redknapp would be interested in doing business remains open to question.

A second rumour has United linked with a move for the Aston Villa youngster, Ciaran Clark. However, this one involves the young centre back moving to Old Trafford as part of a deal that would see Michael Owen going to Villa Park, this despite Sir Alex insisting, yesterday, that Owen is going nowhere.

Rumours! Don`t you just love them!
