Pictured lolling around in the streets at 05:30 in the morning, obviously having had more than just your average night out with the lads; Wayne Rooney`s week didn`t exactly start well.

But boys will be boys and returning to what he does best playing football, Wayne is as keen as ever for the season to start. Speaking to the media Wayne sounds as excited as the rest of us when he`s quoted as having said,

“As soon as a season is ended you can`t wait for the new one to start.”

“You spend the summer seeing which teams have signed which players, who your own team has signed.”

“Even when you have time off that you want to enjoy with your family, you`re always thinking about getting back to playing football because that`s what we do.”

But having seen our title domination and an attempt to secure a record fourth consecutive title dashed by Chelsea, Wayne has commented on how things have changed in the Premier League since he first joined Manchester United,

“Since I signed for United in 2004 I think it has got progressively harder, there are no easy games.”

“In the past you might have had straightforward games where the top clubs could afford to rest players, but not now because every match is competitive and different.”

“The 2009/2010 season was certainly the most competitive I`ve played in. It wasn`t predictable and was a lot more exciting.”

“Many of the top teams lost more games than you would probably expect. It was very tight and we only lost the League by one point.”

“But I do think it`s a good thing. I`m a football fan as well and it made compelling viewing last season. All the battles – the title, fourth place and relegation – went to the wire, and as a fan you can`t ask more for more than that.”

Some might agree, others will disagree, I think I prefer the days when we had the title wrapped up long before the last game.

Returning to last season, a season that saw Wayne collect a host of personal awards, our striker commented on his own season whilst also praising one of the enemy, so to speak,

“At the beginning of any season you want to score as many goals as possible and improve on the previous campaign. I managed to do that and was delighted with my return.”

“But my Player of the Season vote went to Didier Drogba. He scored loads of goals and was the reason, for me, that Chelsea won the title.”

Finally though, Wayne couldn`t resist emphasizing just what it means to play in the Premier League, being quoted by the media as having remarked,

“It`s a great feeling to play in the Premier League and come up against the world`s best players. It`s the best feeling in the world being out there on such a stage.”

Especially when you`re winning and things are going well we might add!
