Not too long ago in the past, the implication was there that Wayne Rooney was set to sign a new deal at Old Trafford.

The deal was reported to be worth something in the region of £140,000 a week and would have made Rooney the highest paid player in our history.

Today though, it is being reported that the deal, although reputedly on the table, has yet to be signed prompting fears, from a leading tabloid, that Rooney could possibly be heading the same way as Cristiano Ronaldo.

To give a degree of evidence to the suggestion, the tabloid produces the usual quote from an Old Trafford insider, a quote which reads,

“If Rooney gets to next summer without signing a new deal his transfer value will plummet. United will lose millions and he will be able to join any club he fancies in the world.”

Although, in the light of recent accusations leveled at Wayne, there might be a case for some to steer clear.

United though, now find themselves; in an awkward situation. Although the accusations have yet to be proven if the contract believed to be on the table is now signed there`s a fear that United could lose some credibility by being seen to reward somebody who isn`t exactly viewed, by the public, as being deserving of such reward.

It could prove to be an interesting few months ahead of us!
