Unless a bout of brotherly love erupts on the Carrington training ground, or United cave in to some extortionate wage demands from the Rooney camp it looks as if the lad will be off.

No doubt, whilst the saga rumbles on and on, possible destinations for the striker will emerge.

Already the red-tops, who are loving this spectacle, have narrowed the potential field down and one top European side featuring on that list are the Catalan giants of Barcelona.

Although the club is currently top-heavy with some wonderful talent, it doesn`t appear as if that fact troubles the Catalan hierarchy with their well respected coach, Pep Guardiola already quoted in the press as having remarked about a player of Rooney`s undoubted talent,

“He is one of the greatest players in the world as there are very few players with his qualities.”

“He`s a player I admire very much.”

No immediate mention of any intention of producing a huge bag of Euros to lure the striker to Barcelona but could it only be a matter of time?
