The thorny subject of if, and when, Sir Alex should retire continued to generate headlines this weekend, in the media.

Obviously aware of such talk, Sir Alex gave a brief hint regarding retirement at a Lord Taverners tribute to Sir Bobby Robson, explaining,

“If we hit a bad spell, it would not be the right time to go.”

“I would not want to put the new manager into a situation where he was taking over a bad team. I want to leave Manchester United in a good, healthy position.”

So is Sir Alex looking to rebuild ahead of a new man taking over?

Are his ambitions to claim back the Premier League title before retiring?

Or will Father Time catch up with Sir Alex before he can realise his final ambition?
